Seakeeper

Seakeeper Inc manufactures 25" gyroscopes that install in yachts to prevent them from rolling in the waves.  Since the gyro functions under a vacuum condition it was necessary to "out-gas" the aluminum by raising it's temperature prior to installation. 
 
The cooling fins on the sphere surface made the project a bit more complex, but the heater was designed to mate with the fins and now fits like a glove.
 
This custom design was engineered and delivered in less than 30 days and an integral part of Seakeeper's manufacturing process.
 
 
 
Pipe Freezing/Thawing

Consolidated Edison

This project designed for the NYC Power Authority, Con Edison, consists of 3 components.  The pipe containes high-voltage power lines and Dilectic Fluid.  This must be frozen with liquid nitrogen so that the cables inside can be repaired over the course of several days. 

  1. The outer most blanket is a Frost Prevention System.  Kept just warm enough to prevent frost from building up on the outside of the system.  This makes the job site workable and makes the task of melting the Freeze much quicker.     
  2. The next layer is an Insulation Jacket that helps keep the cold of the liquid nitrogen in, but also ensures that the Frost Prevention System does not have any effect on the Freeze.  This utilizes a weather proof and durable exterior and aluminized fabric on the belly of the Insulation Jacket.
  3. The innermost layer is a Thaw Blanket.  This system stays dormant throughout the Freeze and withstands the Cryogenic cold temperatures until it is activated.  Once the repair is completed, the ice plug needs to be melted. The Thaw Blanket dramatically reduces the time for the utility to turn the power back on and does so in a safer manner than conventional methods.

This entire system is packaged in hard plastic cases and is field ready- brought to the job site, installed, operated and removed by the crew.  Durable and easy to use.

 
Oil Tank Heaters
Ahlstrom Non Woven Paper Mill - Oil Tank Heater

To keep the oil at operating temperature when the system is down, Ahlstrom Non Woven (a paper mill) in CT had us build these custom Heating Jackets.

The Heating Jacket can be easily removed, but in this application remains in place and only turns on should the oil temperature go below the desired set point.

In contrast to immersion heaters which can not provide such even heating and can "coke" the oil, this system is simple, durable and cost effective.
